“I'm not sure if you know, but Ap's on the company's first patent that we ever filed. He also basically built our beta product from the ground up, covering everything from the mechanical to electrical to software domains. He was so determined. Anytime we needed something done, I knew I could just tell him what it was and leave him to it. I had absolute trust in his abilities and drive. We would not have made it to where we are without your son. He really showed me what was possible - that anything could be built, and nothing was too complicated.”

Apostoli began his journey at the University of Waterloo in the fall of 2018, diving headfirst into a vibrant academic and social life. He thrived in his classes and forged lasting friendships through his genuine spirit and willingness to help others. As a member of the UWaterloo Formula Team, he honed his skills in engineering while contributing to exciting projects. His work in the Fluids Lab further fueled his passion for research, where he tackled complex problems with intellect and creativity. Apostoli’s knack for humor brought lightness to even the most challenging situations, as he effortlessly balanced laughter with thoughtful discussions, making those around him feel both uplifted and inspired. Through his kindness and insight, he left an indelible mark on his peers and professors alike.
An award at University of Waterloo is underway, funding is in progress and continues to be a priority for the Foundation.
Apostolos Marinakos Memorial Award in Engineering
A scholarship, valued at $1,500, will be provided annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Year Two, Three, or Four of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Selection is based on academic achievement combined with demonstrated interest in research, innovation or problem solving through participation on student teams, hackathons, research co-ops with Faculty members or similar experiences.
This fund is made possible by the Apostolos Marinakos Memorial Foundation, in loving memory of Apostolos Marinakos, Mechanical Engineering student at UW. Apostolos is remembered for his ingenious mind, generous heart, innovative spirit, and kindness and unwavering support that touched the hearts and lives of his friends and colleagues during his time at UW.
